Scope of your job

Biotalys is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the “Early Producibility” team in the Discovery department as a (Sr) Researcher Associate. In this role you will actively contribute to our AGROBODY™ discovery and characterization activities for the identification of novel AGROBODY™ bioactives against key crop pest and disease targets.

  • Conduct molecular cloning activities (e.g. PCR, cloning, assembly) for production of AGROBODY™ bioactive candidates against challenging targets and for the generation of Discovery tools.
  • Perform small- and medium scale productions and purifications of AGROBODY™ bioactives for in vitro assays.
  • Analyse protein production and purifications using general biochemical methods (e.g. CE SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, UV-Vis).
  • Actively contribute to the further development of our AGROBODY™ bioactives discovery and characterization platform.
  • Maintain lab notebook and record findings in experimental reports in a detailed and timely manner.
  • Present results and observations in weekly and/or monthly team and project-oriented meetings

What we are looking for

We are looking for a Research associate with a background in recombinant protein production and purification to join the Early Producibility team which is responsible for the small/medium-scale production and biophysical characterization of AGROBODY™ proteins.

  • Bachelor or Master degree in the area of Biotechnology, Molecular Biology or a related field with at least 1 year of industry experience.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in recombinant protein production using bacteria and/or yeast.
  • Hands-on experience in standard recombinant protein purification techniques (e.g. IMAC, Protein A) including use of automated systems (e.g. AKTA system, TECAN + Robocolumns).
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with general protein analysis methods (e.g. SDS-PAGE, WB, UV-Vis) is a must.
  • Hands-on experience with antibody engineering is plus.
  • Strong knowledge of in DNA sequence analysis/editing tools such as CLC Main workbench.
  • Excellent time management, record keeping, and organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and oral.
  • Flexible team player excited to collaborate within different (multidisciplinary) teams.
  • Totally hands-on, practical, problem-solving oriented.
  • An accurate and well-organized work approach to deliver high quality results.
  • Open to giving and receiving feedback.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint).
  • A pro-active attitude and solid problem-solving skills with a sense for creativity and innovation.
  • Ability to learn and embrace new technologies quickly and work independently.
